Dexter Episode 89: This Little Piggy

Dexter and Debra begin the episode in a tense therapy session with Dr. Vogel, arguing over Debra’s attempt to kill them both in the previous episode and her last-second effort that saved Dexter from drowning. Dexter is furious and walks out, while Debra insists she prevented a disaster, and Vogel treats the incident as a turning point for Debra.

At Miami Metro, the team continues investigating Norma Rivera’s murder. The evidence points first to her wealthy boss, Ed Hamilton, after investigators learn she had been having an affair with him, but his alibi checks out and he is no longer treated as the best suspect.

Quinn is also dealing with a separate internal investigation and the pressure surrounding the sergeant position, while Debra is pulled into helping with Masuka’s personal situation involving his daughter.

Back at the Vogel storyline, Yates targets Vogel after learning she is getting too close to him. He breaks into her house and kidnaps her, turning the episode into a rescue effort for Dexter and Debra.

As Dexter and Debra search for Vogel, Dexter’s focus shifts from his anger toward Debra to stopping Yates. Vogel manages to contact Dexter and gives him clues about where she is being held.

Debra helps track the phone call and the search narrows down Yates’s location, allowing Dexter and Debra to find the hideout in time to confront him.

At the hideout, Yates attacks Debra and tries to kill her, but Dexter intervenes and kills Yates by impaling him with a metal pole. Vogel is rescued, and the three of them leave the scene together.

That night, Dexter, Debra, and Vogel dispose of Yates’s body in the ocean. Dexter refers to Debra and Vogel as his family, showing that the episode ends with the three of them emotionally and practically aligned after the rescue.
