Dexter Episode 90: A Little Reflection

Dexter tracks Zach Hamilton as a likely killer in Norma Rivera’s murder, but he initially has no proof and discovers that Dr. Vogel has taken Zach on as a patient after Ed Hamilton expresses concern about his son’s behavior. Vogel refuses to share anything about Zach and tells Dexter to stay out of it.

Debra, after giving Masuka information about Niki, is assigned by Elway to look into whether his sister’s boyfriend, Kevin Wyman, is cheating on her. Meanwhile, Quinn continues his own interest in Zach after missing out on the sergeant promotion, adding pressure around the investigation.

Dexter follows Zach to crime scenes and sees that he photographs bodies and blood, which makes him even more suspicious of the young man. Dexter then brings Zach closer to a fresh crime scene and lets him examine the body, and Zach’s fascination with death becomes even more obvious. Zach later invites Dexter to his studio, where Dexter finds a room full of blood-themed photos and a disturbing visual obsession with violence.

Dexter sneaks back into Zach’s studio and finds photos that place Zach at Norma Rivera’s murder scene with a weapon, confirming that Zach killed her. Dexter continues watching Zach and follows him to a yacht club, where he realizes Zach is not pursuing the woman he appeared to be following, but actually targeting his father, Ed. Before Dexter can intervene openly, he sedates Zach and avoids Quinn in the process.

Dexter takes Zach to his kill table and confronts him there. Zach admits that he killed Norma because Ed’s affairs were worsening his mother’s health, and he wanted to stop that pain. He also confesses that he feels drawn to murder, which deeply interests Dexter. Instead of killing him, Dexter lets him go and decides to teach him Harry’s Code.

Afterward, Dexter and Debra have dinner together at Debra’s house, where Dexter realizes their drinks have been drugged. Hannah McKay’s return is strongly implied by the setup and the poisoning, ending the episode with Dexter and Debra in immediate danger.
