Dexter Episode 93: Make Your Own Kind of Music

Dexter and Dr. Vogel search Zach’s photography studio for evidence about his murder, and Dexter finds a piece of hair stuck under a table that suggests the killer left DNA behind. He takes the sample to be tested, while Vogel notices that Dexter is planning a future with Hannah and questions whether that can lead to anything good.

Back at Miami Metro, Quinn tells Debra that he thinks Zach killed Norma and Cassie, and Deb confronts Dexter about his road trip with Hannah and Zach. Dexter then tells her that Zach is dead, which leaves her confused. Around the same time, U.S. Marshal Max Clayton arrives in Miami after Elway reports Hannah’s sudden return, putting pressure on Dexter’s efforts to keep Hannah hidden.

When the DNA results come back, Dexter learns that the killer is biologically connected to Vogel. He presses Vogel for the truth, and she reveals that she once had two sons, Daniel and Richard; Richard died when she shot him, and Daniel was sent to a mental institution after that. Vogel also says Daniel was later pronounced dead in a fire, but Dexter starts suspecting that Daniel may have survived and changed his identity.

Dexter uses facial-recognition aging software on an old photo of Daniel and is shocked by how closely the result resembles Oliver Saxon, Cassie’s boyfriend. He then gets a DNA sample from Saxon’s apartment and confirms that Saxon is Daniel. With that information, Dexter drugs Vogel so he can go after Saxon, but Saxon is not fooled by the setup and leaves after damaging Dexter’s car by puncturing a tire.

Dexter eventually reaches Vogel’s house, angry and frustrated, only to find that she is furious with him for drugging her and no longer trusts him. Dexter insists he will kill Saxon if he gets the chance, but when he leaves, he does not realize that Saxon has already returned to Vogel and that Vogel has let him into her home.
