Hunter x Hunter Episode 102: Power x and x Games

Gon and Meleoron are in the forest, with Meleoron smoking a cigarette. Gon points out that the smoke could reveal Meleoron's position even if he's invisible. Meleoron thanks him for the advice but expresses confidence in his abilities. He smokes again and vanishes. Gon cannot sense his presence and tries to touch the spot where Meleoron was, but finds nothing. Meleoron reappears, explaining that he was there the whole time. He calls this ability "Perfect Plan," which allows him to "erase" his existence by holding his breath, making him undetectable. He tells Gon that they are the only ones who know about this ability.

As they walk, Gon asks why Meleoron is revealing his abilities. Meleoron states it's to build trust, as he is taking the risk. He believes if he can't convince Gon to trust him, they can't proceed. He promises to share more once Gon becomes his partner. Gon immediately agrees. Meleoron complains about Gon's lack of bargaining skills and his trusting nature, ranting that Gon can't make decisions independently and that Gon's friend would be upset. Meleoron even calls himself a "suspicious-looking monster."

They continue walking, and Meleoron again asks if Gon is sure, still concerned about Gon's friend's reaction. Gon guesses his friend would be angry due to his cautious nature but believes if he insists, things will eventually go his way. Meleoron reluctantly agrees and reveals his motive: he wants to defeat the King for revenge. He initially hesitates to elaborate but then recounts how the King killed someone dear to him, Peggy, by beheading him right after the King's birth and in front of Meleoron. Meleoron explains he remembers his human life and that Peggy was his foster father, an educational figure who always carried books. Meleoron describes some Chimera Ants as feral, which helps Gon understand why he trusts Meleoron, seeing him as more human-like.

Gon properly introduces himself to Meleoron, and they shake hands. Meleoron uses this opportunity to demonstrate his third and final power. He activates it, and they approach a bird while holding hands. Meleoron touches the bird, which doesn't fly away. Gon does the same, and Meleoron finally breathes out. This ability, "God's Accomplice," allows a second person to become invisible as long as they hold hands. Meleoron plans to use this powerful technique against the King, believing that partnered with Gon, they can approach and attack an enemy without detection. He states that the King's strength is irrelevant if they can land a powerful hit when his guard is down.

Meleoron mentions he watched Gon fight against Bat and Hollow, admitting they were his soldiers sent to gauge Gon's strength. Gon, in turn, admits there's someone more suited to be Meleoron's partner than him. However, Meleoron refuses to trust others just because Gon trusts them. He explains that Perfect Plan is vulnerable because while people can't sense his existence, attacks can still hit him. If he turns invisible, others can locate him using a technique called En. This ability is only truly invincible if no one knows about it.

Gon contacts Knuckle, who shouts on the other line. Knuckle informs Gon that their plan forced Morel to act. Morel is now using his aura to surround the capital, making it difficult for Neferpitou to control puppets and preventing the selection from a distance. Morel and Knov will expend all their energy to delay Neferpitou, meaning they won't be in condition to face the Royal Guard when the operation begins. Knuckle also states they cannot contact Netero, who is preparing for the final battle. The remaining Hunters—Knuckle, Shoot, Gon's friend, and Gon—must decide whether to face the Royal Guard or send reinforcements. When Knuckle asks about Gon's friend, Gon says he isn't there. Knuckle is surprised they split up but understands Gon's friend often works alone. Gon tries to call his friend, but he doesn't answer. Knuckle decides they should meet in Mandai City.

Elsewhere, in the Royal Palace of East Gorteau, the King plays a board game against a Shogi champion. The King asks why the human hasn't resigned. Receiving no answer, the King severs the man's left ear, stating he despises repeating himself and that the match ended twenty-two moves ago. Seeing the King's anger, the man tries to flee but is killed. Shaiapouf announces the next opponent is the national Go champion, handing the King a rule book and advising that the game is complex. Hours later, Menthuthuyoupi drags in the Go champion, who is bewildered by the sight of another dead man. The King gives him a choice: play now or die.

At the end of the game, the King wins. The Go champion attributes his loss to exhaustion, fever, and dizziness. The King grants him eight hours and any medicine needed to be in top condition, warning that there will be no excuses if he loses again. As the man leaves, Shaiapouf praises the King's quick learning. The King replies that it's about "the feel"; games have different rules but a common rhythm, and disrupting an opponent's rhythm is key. Shaiapouf praises him again, suggesting the games will soon bore him. The King asks for another game, and Shaiapouf informs him about the country's professional game, Gungi. For fifteen years, East Gorteau has dominated world tournaments, and their current representative is a five-time reigning champion. The King believes beating this champion will make him the best in the world. The Gungi champion then enters the room.
