Full recap

A new phase of the palace invasion is being prepared while the King’s game with Komugi grows stranger and more intense. In this episode, Komugi is introduced more fully, the King asks about names, and a sudden attack on Komugi forces him to act in a way that surprises even him.

The episode opens with the Hunters and their allies continuing preparations for the upcoming infiltration of the palace as the selection approaches. At the palace, the King continues playing Gungi with Komugi, and the game has become a major focus for him. Shaiapouf watches Komugi closely and becomes increasingly disturbed by how much influence she seems to have on the King, especially because Komugi is visibly exhausted and still holding her ground in the game.

During the game, the King finally asks Komugi for her name, and she tells him that she is Komugi. In return, Komugi asks for *his* name, which leaves him stunned because he realizes he does not know it. He calls in the Royal Guard and asks them for advice, but their responses only deepen the problem: they treat “King” as a title rather than a true personal name, and the question of what he should be called remains unresolved.

This leads the King into a serious internal conflict. He reflects on his own overwhelming strength and starts questioning why he values Gungi and Komugi so much when he can overpower almost anyone by force. He becomes angry at the idea that a small, weak human could matter to him this much, and he decides that he should kill Komugi.

When he goes to her room, however, he finds Komugi being attacked by a large bird. She is wounded and covered in blood, and the King immediately rushes to her aid, killing the bird and checking on her condition. Komugi explains that she did not call for help because she did not want to bother anyone. Her reaction deeply shocks the King, especially when she breaks down crying after saying that no one has treated her this kindly before.

By the end of the episode, the King is visibly unsettled by Komugi’s response and by his own behavior, while the palace invasion preparations continue in the background and the tension around the approaching selection keeps rising.
