Hunter x Hunter Episode 136: Homecoming x and x True Name

The Chimera Ant conflict is formally over, and the surviving ants split into separate paths while the Hunters begin dealing with the aftermath and Gon’s critical condition.

The episode opens by showing how the world has changed after Meruem’s death: the battle ends, East Gorteau and NGL are effectively dismantled, and the remaining citizens are treated as refugees while peacekeepers and the Hunter Association take control of the aftermath.

One group of surviving Chimera Ants travels toward Meteor City. Welfin, Hina, and Bizeff leave together, still focused on finding Gyro, while another pair of ants stays behind in NGL and settles into village life instead of continuing the search. In that village sequence, one of the ants begins behaving more like a person from a former life, and the episode makes clear that this girl is Reina, reunited with her mother in a deeply emotional scene.

At the same time, Gon is shown to be in extremely bad shape and in critical condition at the hospital. Killua stays with him and refuses to leave, but his focus shifts from simply waiting to actively trying to save Gon. Knov appears and tells Killua that specialists are being gathered and that his ability will be used to transport people and equipment for Gon’s treatment, but Killua still turns him down at first. Afterward, Killua leaves the hospital determined to find a way to save Gon himself.

The episode also pauses on the Hunter Association’s next crisis: with Netero dead, preparations begin for choosing a successor, and an election is set in motion. Near the end, a video message from Netero’s will is shown, outlining that Hunters will vote and that the Zodiac members will oversee the process. The episode then reveals one of those Zodiacs to be Ging, Gon’s father, just as Killua and the others are being pulled into the next stage of events.
