Hunter x Hunter Episode 37: Ging x and x Gon

Gon and Killua travel to Whale Island. Upon arriving, Gon meets Mito outside their house and embraces her. Mito greets Killua and invites them inside. Mito asks Gon and Killua to bathe before preparing a meal. After they clean themselves, a feast is prepared. While eating, Gon, Mito, and an older woman give thanks for their food, which Killua observes with curiosity.

After eating, Gon and Killua go outside and explore the forest. At night, they chat by a bonfire. Killua asks Gon about his plans, and Gon replies that he will stay home for a while before going to Yorknew City to gather information about his father. Killua expresses admiration for Gon having a goal, stating he has none but wishes he did. They discuss their friendship, and Gon suggests they travel the world together while he searches for his father and Killua discovers what he wants to do. Killua then asks about Gon's mother. Gon tells him he knows nothing about his birth mother and that Mito is the only mother he wants. Mito, who has been standing behind a bush with food, begins to cry happily after hearing this.

Back home, Gon tells Mito he will stay for a month before looking for his father. Mito shows Gon a small box his father left for him and shares what she knows about him. She tells Gon that he was the same age as his father when his father left Whale Island to become a Hunter. During their conversation, the older woman steps in and reveals that Mito's parents were the ones who died in a car accident, not Gon's parents. She explains that ten years after leaving, Gon's father returned with Gon and asked her to care for him. When Mito asked Gon's father about Gon's mother, he replied that they had separated. The older woman also recounts Mito's reactions at the time. After learning about his father, Gon begins to call him by his first name. Mito tells him that she and Gon's father were the only children around when they were young. The older woman describes how Mito and Gon's father would always play, and how Mito would often get lost. She recounts an incident where Mito followed Gon's father into the mountains and got lost, causing the whole village to panic. Only Gon's father was able to find her due to their close bond and a hiding place only he knew. Mito appears mortified by this story.

The next morning, Gon and Killua try to open the small box from Gon's father. Killua suggests using a technique called Nen on the box. The metal protecting the box falls off, revealing another layer underneath. They find a slot for a Hunter License, which allows them to open the second layer. Inside the box are a ring, a memory card, and a cassette tape. Gon decides to listen to the tape first. As the tape plays, Gon's father's voice is heard, asking Gon if he wants to see him.
