Hunter x Hunter Episode 42: Defend x and x Attack

Gon and Killua visit a market in Yorknew City, where Gon decides to buy a new cell phone. They encounter Leorio, and the three friends reunite. They discuss Nen, and Gon and Killua tell Leorio about a game called Greed Island. The group then talks about ways to increase their funds, and Leorio suggests a method called "Bind."

Elsewhere, the Nostrade bodyguards are assigned their positions for an auction scheduled for that night. Dalzollene provides details about the auction's location. Three guards are designated to attend the auction itself, while two others will guard the back entrance. Kurapika and Melody are assigned to guard the front entrance.

Leorio, Gon, and Killua set up an arm-wrestling challenge on the street. They invite passersby to compete against Gon, offering a diamond worth 3 million Jenny to anyone who can beat him. As night falls, Gon continues to win his matches. A girl then challenges him. The match is intense, and Gon uses his full strength to win. The girl is later seen talking to other individuals.

The auction is about to begin, and Kurapika and Melody are at their posts. Kurapika wonders if a certain group will appear. Melody notices this, recognizing a sound of rage in his heart similar to what she heard when she first saw him leaving the employment agency. She mentions the Scarlet Eyes, and Kurapika, realizing he cannot lie to her, tells her about himself and the Scarlet Eyes. He explains his intention to find all the eyes taken from his comrades and return them.

Kurapika then asks Melody why she took the same job. Melody explains that she is searching for the Sonata of Darkness, a musical piece believed to cause disaster to anyone who plays or hears it. Kurapika expresses skepticism, so Melody shows him her arm, which is mutated and shredded. She recounts that after only briefly hearing the flute version of the sonata from a friend, her body transformed, and her friend died, completely decimated. In exchange, Melody gained the ability to hear the sounds of a person's heart. She wants to restore her body, find the complete sonata, and destroy it to prevent further tragedy. Meanwhile, the Underground Auction is about to start.
