Hunter x Hunter Episode 44: Buildup x to a x Fierce Battle

Several individuals known as the Shadow Beasts attempt to attack a man named Uvogin, while others sit nearby playing cards. One of the Shadow Beasts, Worm, punches Uvogin in the face but receives a stronger punch in return. Worm then burrows underground and tries to pull Uvogin down with him. To escape, Uvogin uses a powerful attack called Big Bang Impact, creating a large crater and severely injuring Worm.

Uvogin then tries to punch another Shadow Beast, Porcupine, but Porcupine's sharp body hairs pierce Uvogin's hand, trapping him. Meanwhile, Rabid Dog repeatedly bites Uvogin, tearing off pieces of his flesh and injecting poison. Uvogin eventually collapses from the poison, allowing a Shadow Beast named Leech to enter the fight. Leech fills Uvogin's body with small, spotted leeches that he had stored within himself. Uvogin then bites off part of Leech's head, killing him. Uvogin spits a piece of Leech's skull, which acts like a bullet and hits Rabid Dog in the head, killing him as well. To free himself from Porcupine, Uvogin screams very loudly, which knocks Porcupine out.

Filled with poison and leeches, Uvogin asks a woman named Shizuku if she can remove them. Shizuku explains that her ability, Blinky, can only vacuum nonliving things. She is able to remove the poison but not the leeches.

With the Shadow Beasts defeated, a person named Kurapika, whose eyes are glowing scarlet, tries to approach Uvogin. Another person, Dalzollene, stops Kurapika, but Kurapika resists aggressively. A woman named Melody plays a song on her flute, which calms everyone around her, ending the conflict between Kurapika and Dalzollene. Despite appearing calm, Kurapika states that he still needs to go after Uvogin. Using an ability called Chain Jail, Kurapika pulls Uvogin out of the crater. Kurapika then leaves with others from the Nostrade Family in a car, taking Uvogin with them. In the car, Uvogin tries to speak but is quickly silenced by an agitated Kurapika. Kurapika mentally reviews the limitations he has placed on his own abilities as they drive Uvogin to a hotel.
