Hunter x Hunter Episode 53: Fake x and x Psyche

An explosion rocks the Cemetery Building, causing panic among the auction guests. Bean, an attendant, calms them by announcing that the Ten Dons will address them directly. The guests praise Neon's fortune-telling for their safety. On a screen, a leader of the Ten Dons apologizes for the disturbance and declares the leader of the Phantom Troupe dead, with the rest to be dealt with soon.

Elsewhere, it's revealed that the Ten Dons have been killed by a mysterious individual. This individual calls Silva, asking if his client, Chrollo, is still alive. From the debris of the basement, Zeno and Chrollo emerge relatively unharmed. The mysterious individual tells Silva to inform Chrollo to send payment to his account. Zeno prepares to leave, explaining to Chrollo that since the Ten Dons, their clients, are dead, Chrollo is no longer their target. Zeno states that the Zoldyck Family operates on business, not pleasure. Chrollo expresses relief and asks who would win if their fight continued. Zeno confidently replies himself, but adds that if Chrollo were truly determined to kill him, it would be a different matter. Zeno and Silva then depart, with Silva glaring at Chrollo. Once they are gone, Chrollo collapses, disappointed he couldn't steal their abilities.

Kurapika instructs Melody to wait at the hospital, as Neon will be sent there due to their current location being dangerous. A doctor confirms Neon only fainted and would be safer at the hospital. The Spiders arrive on the floor where Chrollo is. Chrollo tells Kortopi to proceed with their plan to create static copies of their "corpses" and orders them not to interfere with Neon's ambulance. As Neon is taken to the ambulance, Kurapika assures Light that Neon will be safe and the ambulance won't be targeted.

Bean watches the auction begin from backstage, relieved. Hisoka offers Bean a light for his cigarette, but Machi silently kills Bean. Pakunoda presents a Solid-Gold Execution Sword. It's revealed that Shalnark is manipulating the auction host using his "Black Voice" ability. When a Celadon Porcelain Vase is introduced, the Troupe members find the original, and Kortopi uses his "Gallery Fake" ability to create a copy. Pakunoda then presents the fake item, and the auction continues without suspicion.

As Kurapika watches the ambulance leave, two men approach him, asking why he isn't at the auction. They inform him that the leader of the Phantom Troupe is dead. Zenji taunts Kurapika, who punches him, refusing to believe it without seeing the body. Chrollo's "corpse" is found outside by the Mafia, who comment on his youth. The bodies of five other members are also found. Kurapika rushes back inside and sees the Scarlet Eyes being auctioned. He calls Light, who orders him to bid on them. Kurapika bids 350 million Jenny, but Zenji counters with 1 billion Jenny. The Scarlet Eyes ultimately sell for 2.9 billion Jenny.

After collecting the Scarlet Eyes, Kurapika removes his contact lenses in a restroom. He walks gloomily towards the hospital and encounters Zenji, who becomes irritated when ignored and points a gun at Kurapika. Kurapika orders Zenji to step aside, threatening him while revealing his own Scarlet Eyes. Zenji recoils in surprise and fear as Kurapika walks past him.

Gon and Killua find Leorio and Zepile enjoying themselves in their room. Leorio invites them to drink, but Killua declines, stating they are underage. Leorio is impressed when Gon and Killua recount their escape from the Spiders. Gon tells Zepile how his lesson helped them. Leorio invites Gon and Killua to the auction tomorrow, but Gon says they will learn Nen from Kurapika. Leorio questions this, as they all learned Nen around the same time, but Gon informs him that Kurapika has already defeated a Troupe member alone. Killua adds that there must be a secret to Nen allowing power without experience.

Neon awakens and is overjoyed to see the Scarlet Eyes, thanking her father and remarking on their beauty. Melody senses Kurapika's sadness and reassures him. Kurapika calls Gon and informs him about the Spiders' deaths. Meanwhile, Hisoka tries to call Kurapika, but the line is busy. He watches as the Troupe members drink, celebrating their mission's success.
