Hunter x Hunter Episode 56: Beloved x and x Beleaguered

On a rainy day, Gon, Leorio, and a disguised Kurapika ride in a car. Kurapika speaks on the phone with Killua, who is near the Phantom Troupe's hideout. Killua explains that new buildings, constructed with Nen, make it difficult to locate the hideout, and he is wary of encountering any Troupe members. Kurapika then contacts Melody, who is still shopping with Neon.

Meanwhile, Chrollo, Shalnark, Phinks, Franklin, Shizuku, Pakunoda, Machi, Nobunaga, Feitan, Kortopi, Bonolenov, and Hisoka discuss the "Chain User," the Nostrade Family, and Neon's bodyguards, whose pictures are on flyers they examine. Chrollo realizes he could have obtained information about the "Chain User" from Neon after stealing her powers. He deduces that Neon's interest in collecting body parts, such as the Scarlet Eyes from the Underground Auction, connects to the "Chain User's" pursuit of the eyes and revenge. The Troupe searches the stolen auction boxes for the Scarlet Eyes. Kortopi uses his ability to locate a copy he created, which leads them to the hotel where Neon and her companions are staying. Nobunaga expresses a desire to go immediately, and Chrollo agrees to join him.

Killua stakes out the hideout from a rooftop and receives a call from Melody, who demonstrates an exceptional ability to hear. Chrollo, Nobunaga, Shizuku, Kortopi, Machi, and Pakunoda head towards the hotel. Melody instantly detects their movements. As Melody and Killua follow the Troupe, Gon calls Killua for an update. Leorio drives Gon and Kurapika to a train station where the Troupe is headed, and Melody and Killua ride on the same train. Kurapika realizes the Troupe is going to Neon's hotel. Inside the hotel, Squala talks on the phone with Eliza, who is still shopping with Neon. He speaks to his dogs about a better future with Eliza.

The Troupe exits the train, and Kurapika informs Squala that they are approaching. Kurapika states he must avoid the Troupe to prevent them from sensing his killing intent, asking Gon to buy him time to use his chains. Squala leaves his room and enters an elevator, unaware that the Troupe knows his exact movements due to the Scarlet Eyes' copy. The Troupe rushes towards the hotel, while Leorio is stuck in traffic. Gon and Kurapika proceed on foot, and Killua, learning of the situation, follows them.

The Troupe senses their presence. Nobunaga, Pakunoda, and Kortopi go ahead to pursue Squala, while Chrollo, Machi, and Shizuku confront Gon, Killua, and Kurapika. The three hide instantly. As an enraged Kurapika prepares to use his chains, Gon and Killua give themselves up. The Troupe members tie up Gon and Killua, believing them to be connected to Kurapika. Gon asks why they kill people, and Chrollo gives vague, rambling answers. Kurapika and Melody observe, with Kurapika expressing displeasure. Melody calms him by pointing out that his actions led to Gon and Killua's capture. They note that Squala is not answering his phone.

Squala is frozen in fear as Nobunaga stands in front of his car and Pakunoda points a gun at his head. They acknowledge he is not the "Chain User" but confirm he is a bodyguard. Pakunoda breaks Squala's arm during questioning. Squala states he had no knowledge of Kurapika being the "Chain User." Pakunoda uses her ability to learn about Eliza, which enrages Squala, but Nobunaga instantly removes his head. Eliza suddenly experiences a strange feeling. Pakunoda uses her Nen ability, Memory Bomb, to project clear images of Kurapika into Nobunaga and Kortopi's minds. Nobunaga becomes excited, seeking revenge.
