Hunter x Hunter Episode 9: Beware x of x Prisoners
Tonpa promptly gives up even before Bendot land a punch on him. Leorio is furious at what he has done but Tonpa tells them that his real plan is to sabotage rookies like them. Gon then faces Sedokan, who proposes a match to see whose candle burns the longest. Gon chooses the longer candle, unaware that it is oil-soaked, and his candle starts to burn faster midway. Seeing that his candle is not susceptible to strong winds, he puts it down and sprints towards Sedokan to blow his candle. The next match is between Kurapika and Majitani, who proposes a death match without weapons and and with the condition that one must die or surrender to finish the match. Majitani, who relies on scaring and intimidating his enemies to make them surrender, is easily defeated by Kurapika when he sees something in Majitani and makes him see red.

Tonpa immediately surrenders before his opponent, Bendot, can land a punch. Leorio is angry at Tonpa's actions, but Tonpa reveals his true intention is to sabotage new applicants. Gon then faces Sedokan, who suggests a contest to see whose candle burns the longest. Gon picks the longer candle, unaware it is soaked in oil, causing it to burn faster midway through the match. Noticing his own candle is not easily affected by strong winds, Gon places it down and runs towards Sedokan to blow out his candle.
The next match is between Kurapika and Majtani. Majtani proposes a deathmatch without weapons, stating that one participant must die or surrender for the match to end. Majtani, who relies on fear and intimidation, boasts about the number of people he has killed, indicated by multiple heart tattoos. Kurapika observes a spider tattoo on Majtani's back, and his eyes turn scarlet. Kurapika easily defeats Majtani with a powerful punch, knocking him unconscious but not killing him. Kurapika then tells Majtani to remember three things: a genuine Phantom Troupe tattoo includes the member's number on the spider tattoo's back; the Phantom Troupe has killed too many people to count; and if Majtani ever mentions the Phantom Troupe to Kurapika again, Kurapika will kill him. The group is startled by Kurapika's outburst, and the others wonder about his connection to spiders. Kurapika sits alone in a corner while the prisoners discuss their next move.
