Hunter x Hunter Episode 98: Infiltration x and x Selection

Hagya, Flutter, and Hina run across a deserted plain until they reach the Royal Palace of East Gorteau. They bow before Shaiapouf and inform him about something. Shaiapouf then leaves Hagya and his team, who appear satisfied.

Elsewhere, Gon and Killua easily infiltrate the Republic of East Gorteau. Killua warns Gon about informants who receive rewards for discovering enemy spies or preventing someone from leaving the country, which can negatively impact the spy's entire family. However, if false information is provided or a crime is committed, the entire group of informants is punished. Gon notes Killua's knowledge on the subject, and Killua explains he heard it from his brother, who heard it from their grandfather, who had previously infiltrated the country for a job.

They arrive at a small village, and Killua suggests they sneak in for information. He tells Gon to wait, then proceeds to sneak in alone. After a while, Killua signals Gon to follow. They find a deserted house, and Killua deduces something is hidden due to the bloody mess on the floor and bullet holes in the walls. They follow a blood trail outside, which leads them to buried villagers. Killua believes this indicates that the population of cities and villages is vanishing and that a "selection" has already begun. They discuss the population of Peijin and how many Nen users would be needed to check five million citizens. Killua adds that not all Chimera Ants can use Nen, but they can still use Manipulation, leading to a discussion about a specific Ant's abilities. Killua thinks causing a commotion during the selection would be simple by taking out anyone controlled and creating panic, but detection is the problem. Gon agrees to Killua's plan, but Killua prefers to execute it alone, insisting Gon stay hidden as their main goal is to defeat a specific Ant.

Unknown to them, a Chimera Ant named Meleoron has been hiding and observing. Meleoron notes that Gon and Killua are not citizens and suspects them of being spies. He acknowledges their strength and wonders if they are assassins or if they are hunting the King. Meleoron believes he should stop them but prefers not to engage both in combat, especially Killua, whom he thinks has the potential to become a Squadron Leader. Killua turns and glares for a moment. Meleoron continues, complimenting Killua for sensing his concealed presence. Killua and Gon then separate. Meleoron laughs to himself and proceeds to follow Gon.

Meanwhile, Knov and Morel convince Marcos that he and his family will be transported to safety. Knov assures him that all necessary documents are prepared, and Marcos only needs to sign them. The condition is that Marcos shares his complete military knowledge in exchange for his freedom. Marcos immediately agrees and begins to speak about crimes committed by "Ming Jol-ik." Despite Morel's reluctance to hear this information, he assures Marcos he should continue his business as normal. Elsewhere, Knuckle complains to Shoot about sitting around while people die. They argue, and Shoot tells Knuckle to calm down, but Knuckle believes they should do something about the selection.

Gon spends time in the forest eating and wondering about Killua. He senses another presence, and as he turns a second time, a Chimera Ant named Snake attacks him. Gon dodges, and Snake praises him. The Ant uses his tail to propel himself through the trees. He traps Gon with his tail, but Gon frees himself, lands a heavy punch on Snake's face, defeats him, and ties him to a tree with his own tail. Meleoron observes and is convinced of Gon's strength. As Gon runs away, he senses more Ants. Bat and Hollow are following him. Meleoron finds Gon's situation interesting and laughs to himself while watching from the trees.
