My Hero Academia Episode 139: In the Nick of Time! A Big-Time Maverick from the West!

Season 7· canon

As jailbreakers run rampant in Japan, Star and Stripe flies from the U.S. to Japan to help and finds Shigaraki waiting for her in the middle of her flight path.

Full recap

The episode splits between the global hero response and the first clash with **Star and Stripe** as she races to Japan and is intercepted in midair by **Tomura Shigaraki**. It ends with Shigaraki trying to seize the moment before she can land, while the heroes in Japan realize the battle has moved far sooner than expected.

The episode opens by showing the wider crisis: villains around the world have been emboldened by the chaos in Japan, and governments are hesitant to commit to All Might’s call for international help. In the United States, **Star and Stripe**, the country’s top hero, refuses to wait for official approval and departs with her fighter squadron to assist Japan.

Back in Japan, **Endeavor**, **Hawks**, and **Best Jeanist** head toward the planned landing area where Star and Stripe’s support is supposed to arrive. They receive an emergency call from **Naomasa** reporting that Shigaraki, whose body is nearly complete, has suddenly confronted Star and Stripe in the air roughly 50 kilometers from the landing point. That forces the Japanese heroes to realize the encounter has already begun and that the situation is far more urgent than expected.

The episode then shifts to the air battle itself, where Shigaraki appears with a flying Nomu and blocks Star and Stripe before she can reach Japan. Star and Stripe immediately engages him, using her combat aircraft and her own power in an attempt to stop him. The clash is presented as a high-speed, high-stakes confrontation, with Star and Stripe refusing to back down even though she is facing one of the most dangerous villains in the world.

A key detail established in the episode is that Star and Stripe’s Quirk, **New Order**, depends on her declaring a target’s name to impose a rule on it. She attempts to use it against Shigaraki, but the effort does not go the way she expects because his state of identity is unstable due to his connection with All For One. As a result, the episode ends with the battle unresolved, setting up the rest of the confrontation as Star and Stripe continues her attack from the sky.
