Full recap
In the waiting room, Shoto reflects on his mother's breakdown and Izuku's encouragement. Katsuki bursts in, mistakenly thinking it's his waiting room, then decides to stay despite his error, annoyed by Shoto's lack of reaction. Katsuki tries to intimidate Shoto by blasting the table and telling him to do his best. Shoto replies that Izuku said the same thing and that he was foolish for trying to help him instead of winning. He asks Katsuki if Izuku was helpful during their childhood, which infuriates Katsuki. Katsuki kicks over the table, yelling for Shoto to ignore Izuku and his family issues so he will use his fire in their match. He then exits, stating he wants everyone to know he beat Shoto at full strength.
The final battle of the U.A. Sports Festival begins. Shoto uses a controlled version of his giant ice attack. Katsuki endures it by tunneling through with explosions. Katsuki rushes Shoto, commenting on his powerful but poorly aimed attacks. Shoto moves to counter, but Katsuki evades with a mid-air explosion, grabs Shoto's left side, and throws him. Shoto creates and surfs an ice wave to avoid going out of bounds. Katsuki attacks again, and Shoto stops him by evading a blast and grabbing his forearm. Instead of using flames, Shoto simply tosses Katsuki away. This angers Katsuki, who asks if he's unworthy of Shoto's flames.
Eraser Head observes that Katsuki continues to show battle aptitude, but Shoto seems to have lost his spark after his match with Izuku. Aggravated, Katsuki demands Shoto use his fire so he can defeat him at his best and prove he is the strongest. Shoto considers Katsuki's words, internally apologizing because he is still unsure about what his left side means to him. Izuku shouts encouragement, telling him not to give up and to do his best. Impassioned, Shoto ignites his flames and prepares for Katsuki's next move. Katsuki is excited to see the fire and readies his special move, Howitzer Impact. As the two are about to clash, Shoto thinks about his parents and extinguishes his flames, leaving himself open to Katsuki's powerful explosion.
After the smoke clears, Katsuki realizes Shoto did not use his fire and has been blasted out of the ring. He runs to the unconscious Shoto, furiously demanding he get up and use his full power, believing a victory this way is meaningless. Midnight uses her Quirk to knock out the angered Katsuki and declares him the victor and first-year champion.
The awards ceremony begins. The first, second, and third-place contestants take the podium, but Katsuki is restrained due to his wild behavior, still furious about Shoto. Fumikage shares third place with Tenya, but Tenya had to leave to check on his injured brother, Tensei. All Might arrives to distribute awards but is annoyed when Midnight ruins his introduction. He then distributes medals. All Might advises Fumikage to train harder so he doesn't rely so heavily on Dark Shadow and gives him the bronze medal. He awards Shoto the silver medal and asks why he didn't use his flames. Shoto replies that Izuku opened his eyes, but he still doubts himself and believes his path to becoming a hero is clouded. He also mentions he understands All Might's interest in Izuku. All Might moves to Katsuki, but the champion refuses the gold medal, feeling this hasn't proved he is the best. All Might forces Katsuki to take it by putting it in his mouth, then closes the ceremony.
Afterward, Shota excuses Class 1-A for two days to recuperate and announces they will review draft forms upon their return. Elsewhere, Tenya arrives at Hosu General Hospital to check on his brother's condition. He rushes to Tensei's side, where the severely injured Tensei apologizes for failing as a role model.
The next day, Shoto decides to visit his mother in the psychiatric ward, despite his sister's disapproval. Shoto had always believed his presence would cause his mother more pain, so he never visited. However, he now needs closure to continue his path to becoming a hero without anything holding him back. He gathers courage to approach her, resolving to discuss everything and free her from the ward's custody.
Ochaco finishes grocery shopping and returns home to her parents surprising her with a celebration. Izuku's mom tells him she fainted seven times during the Cavalry Battle at breakfast. He recalls telling her he acquired a Quirk because he was a late bloomer. He also ponders how to make his power his own and become the true successor to All Might. Still fuming over the festival, Katsuki threatens his mouth germs while brushing his teeth, leading his mother to scold him for yelling so early.
