My Hero Academia Episode 26: Time to Pick Some Names

Season 2· canon

Following their epic debut at the sports festival, it’s time for the first-years to pick the most important part of their identities—their hero name!

Full recap

Two days after the U.A. Sports Festival, normal classes resume. On his way to school, Izuku Midoriya is recognized by several train passengers. At school, Tenya Ida urges Izuku to hurry to class, and by their lockers, Tenya assures Izuku that everything involving his brother is fine before they head to class. Inside, students discuss their newfound public recognition from the festival.

Shota Aizawa enters, fully recovered from his injuries and without bandages. He announces that their homeroom class will be Hero Informatics, which initially causes panic among students who fear a test. However, Shota reveals they will be choosing their hero code names, exciting the class.

The professor explains that these names relate to Pro-Hero draft picks, noting that as first-years, any offers can be rescinded before graduation. He then displays the draft results, showing Shoto Todoroki and Katsuki Bakugo leading with thousands of hero nominations. Denki Kaminari expresses discouragement at the large gap between their thousands of nominations and the hundreds received by himself and others. Kyoka Jiro points out that Shoto received the most offers despite losing to Katsuki, and Momo Yaoyorozu congratulates him. Shoto appears unenthusiastic, attributing his nominations to his father's influence. Hanta Sero suggests pros might have been reluctant to work with Katsuki due to his demeanor at the awards ceremony, to which Katsuki retorts that if they were scared, they are weak. Ochaco Uraraka is excited about her and Tenya's offers, while Minoru Mineta notes Izuku received none due to his reckless fighting style against Shoto.

Although some students, like Izuku, received no offers, Shota informs the class that everyone will spend a week interning with Pro-Heroes. Shota emphasizes the importance of choosing hero names, and Midnight arrives, stating she will have final approval. After handing out canvases, Midnight instructs the class to present their chosen names. Yuga Aoyama is the first to volunteer, choosing "I can not stop twinkling." Midnight shortens it to "Can't Stop Twinkling." Mina Ashido attempts "Alien Queen," but Midnight denies it, explaining she cannot compare herself to a villain. Tsuyu Asui then presents "Rainy Season Hero: Froppy," which the class finds more normal.

Eijiro Kirishima chooses "Sturdy Hero: Red Riot," inspired by his idol. This reminds Izuku of his childhood, when he playfully chose many hero names after his idol. He realizes he cannot do so now, with much training ahead to compare to his idol. Kyoka notices Denki struggling and suggests "jamming-way," but admits it's a joke. She then presents "Hearing Hero: Earphone Jack."

Mezo Shoji chooses "Tentacle Hero: Tentacole," Hanta Sero selects "Tape Hero: Cellophane," Mashirao Ojiro picks "Martial Arts Hero: Tailman," Rikido Sato takes "Sweets Hero: Sugarman," and Mina Ashido changes her name to "Pinky." Midnight approves these, along with Denki Kaminari's "Stun Gun Hero: Chargebolt," Toru Hagakure's "Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl," Momo Yaoyorozu's "Everything Hero: Creati," and Shoto Todoroki's choice to simply use his first name. Fumikage Tokoyami chooses "Jet Black Hero: Tsukuyomi," Minoru Mineta picks "Fresh Picked Hero: Grape Juice," and Koji Koda silently selects "Petting Hero: Anima." Katsuki Bakugo tries "King Explosion Murder," but Midnight deems it too violent. Ochaco Uraraka presents "Uravity." This leaves Katsuki, Tenya, and Izuku.

While choosing his name, Tenya recalls visiting his brother in the hospital, where his brother, paralyzed, expressed his wish for Tenya to inherit the name "Ingenium." Despite this, Tenya chooses to use his real name. Midnight calls Izuku, and his classmates are surprised by his choice of "Deku." Izuku explains that while he once detested the nickname, Ochaco showed him it could have a different meaning, leading to his change of heart.

In the staff room, Cementoss informs All Might that an offer has come in for Izuku. All Might is astounded when he sees who made the offer. Code name selection concludes after Midnight denies Katsuki's revised choice, "Lord Explosion Murder." Shota returns to the topic of internships. He explains that students with offers will choose from their nominations, while others will use a list of about forty agencies. Midnight advises students to choose an agency that suits their aspirations, and Shota dismisses them. Looking through his offers, Shoto notices a nomination from his father's agency.

During lunchtime, Mina asks if anyone has chosen an agency. Minoru states he picked Mt. Lady's agency, prompting Tsuyu to suggest it's due to his perversion. Mashirao notes Mina's lack of offers despite reaching the second round of the finals. Ochaco tries to ask Izuku about his choice, observing him muttering to himself while making a selection. Ochaco reveals she chose the Battle Hero: Gunhead's agency to gain strength and a different perspective from rescue work. She then sees Izuku working out by hovering slightly above his seat, and Katsuki becomes annoyed when his peers discuss Izuku.

At the end of the school day, Izuku agrees to walk home with Ochaco, who notices Tenya has already left. All Might suddenly appears and takes Izuku aside, informing him of a nomination. All Might reveals his former homeroom teacher extended the offer and knows about Izuku's power. Izuku is excited, but All Might appears fearful when reminded of his old teacher. Meanwhile, Aizawa notices Tenya chose a lower-class offer from a hero in Hosu City.

Izuku reunites with Ochaco, telling her about his offer. They both notice Tenya has already left school, and Izuku recalls news about Ingenium being taken out by the Hero Killer. On the first day of internships, Shota dismisses the students after distributing their costumes. Before Tenya leaves for Hosu, Izuku and Ochaco approach him. They encourage him to talk to them if he feels helpless and ask if he's comfortable doing so as friends. He affirms their friendship and walks away, his smile changing to a vengeful glare. Afterwards, Izuku travels to his internship location and finds his mentor playing dead inside the house.
