My Hero Academia Episode 5: What I Can Do for Now

Midoriya begins his first day at U.A. High School, where he reunites with Iida and Uraraka from the entrance exam, along with Bakugo and other new classmates. Iida apologizes to Midoriya for doubting him during the entrance exam.

Their teacher, Aizawa Shouta, a hero who works in the shadows, immediately challenges the class with eight physical fitness tests. Aizawa explains that he believes students are at U.A. to become heroes, not to make friends, and warns them that whoever ranks last will be expelled. This harsh announcement particularly unsettles Midoriya, who still struggles to control One For All without breaking his own bones.

Throughout the tests, Midoriya performs poorly because he cannot safely use his quirk at full power without injuring himself. As the final test approaches—a baseball throw—Aizawa appears ready to expel Midoriya before he even completes it. However, Midoriya devises a solution: he channels all of One For All's power into just his finger for the throw, minimizing the damage to the rest of his body. The ball flies an impressive distance, and though his finger shatters from the effort, he demonstrates both growing control over his quirk and a sense of responsibility in using it.

All Might, who has been watching from the sidelines worried about Midoriya's performance, beams with pride at this display. Later, All Might meets privately with Midoriya and confirms that he achieved everything on his own merit without any special treatment. All Might also reveals his long-term goal: to eventually retire once Midoriya grows strong enough to replace him.

The episode concludes with Midoriya's impressive final move earning him a place in the class and impressing everyone present.
