Full recap

Michael, Lincoln, and Sara finish meeting with Cooper Green, who cannot help them any further, so Michael decides to confront President Caroline Reynolds directly and force a presidential pardon for himself and Lincoln. Lincoln says he will make another call for help if Michael’s plan fails, while Michael prepares to use the recorded conversation with Reynolds as leverage.

At the same time, C-Note tries to hang himself in his cell, but guards find him in time and save him. He later calls for Mahone, but Agent Wheeler answers instead, and C-Note reveals that he is willing to give Mahone up only if his own freedom is restored.

In Chicago, Reynolds arrives for a public appearance, while Kellerman positions himself with a rifle nearby, apparently ready to shoot her. Michael manages to get close to Reynolds and is taken into custody after a tense confrontation with Secret Service agents. Inside, Kim demands to be left alone with Michael and tries to beat information out of him, but Reynolds interrupts before that can continue. Michael then tells her about the tape and makes his demand clear: he wants a full pardon for himself and Lincoln.

Reynolds initially appears cornered and agrees to release Michael, but Kim later confronts her with the same leverage Michael has over her, and she realizes she can no longer keep the situation under control. Instead of granting the pardon, Reynolds goes on television and announces that she is stepping down as president, citing a serious illness. That decision destroys the brothers’ leverage, and their plan for official pardons collapses.

In Mexico, T-Bag arrives at the airport looking for his money, only to find Bellick there as well. The situation quickly turns into a chaotic scramble for Westmoreland’s cash when T-Bag has to fight his way toward the luggage area and keep the bag from being taken.

Elsewhere, Mahone tracks Sara and tries to manipulate her into contacting Michael. Sara notices signs of Mahone’s drug problem and uses that distraction to stall him long enough to escape. It turns out, however, that Mahone has planned for her escape and has someone following her to lead him to Michael and Lincoln.

Later, Lincoln contacts an old acquaintance for help with leaving the country if Michael’s plan fails. By the end of the episode, the brothers are left without the pardon they were trying to force, and Reynolds’ resignation makes their situation far worse than before.
