Prison Break Episode 51: Vamonos

Michael and Whistler are about to fight to the death in the Sona courtyard, but Michael quietly tells him the fight is a diversion for the escape attempt. They are supposed to use a drugged guard and a brief window of sunlight to get past the tower guard and descend the rope before 3:13 p.m., but the clouds move in and the glare disappears, forcing them to climb back up and hide again.

The failed escape attempt immediately draws attention when the rope is spotted and the prison alarm goes off, bringing guards and soldiers into the prison. The situation in the yard turns chaotic, and Lechero is furious that the planned fake fight has turned into a real disruption.

Inside and around Sona, several other schemes unravel at the same time. Lincoln tries to deal with the exchange involving Whistler and L.J., but Sofia points a gun at him to stop him from handing Whistler over, arguing that doing so would condemn an innocent L.J. to death. Sucre intercepts Susan’s van by crashing into it, but even at gunpoint he cannot force her side to trade L.J., so Susan escapes the confrontation with the upper hand.

The prison authorities discover signs of the escape attempt and storm the prison, while the guards wake Captain Hurtado and rush to respond after seeing the climbing rope. In the confusion, one of Lechero’s men is shot for not revealing what was happening, and Lechero’s own deal with the outside world begins to come apart as his authority in the prison collapses.

Mahone is also dealing with pressure from outside the prison. He is told that he will have full immunity if he tells the truth, but he leaves his hearing believing that he is being set up to confess. That same episode also shows him being pulled further into a possible way out, though the offer comes with strings attached.

Michael is dragged before Lechero after the escape attempt fails, but instead of being punished, he is ordered to take Lechero with him when he escapes. At the end, Susan contacts Whistler, and he tells her to give Michael and Lincoln four more days, keeping the escape plan alive for the moment.
