Prison Break Episode 55: Under and Out

Michael pushes the escape plan forward when he realizes the group is behind schedule, giving everyone only 24 hours to re-dig the tunnel from Sona. He also decides that, because heavy rain will flood and collapse the tunnel, they must attempt the breakout that same night instead of waiting longer.

As the pressure rises, the would-be escapees begin turning on one another and angling for advantage. Michael is frustrated by the tension and by the moral company he is keeping in Sona, but he ultimately persuades McGrady to join the breakout effort.

Outside the prison, Sofia is targeted when Gretchen’s men kidnap her and use her to force Whistler into giving up information. Under that threat, Whistler reveals only part of the coordinates he has been withholding, hoping to protect Sofia and the people tied to the escape.

Sucre sabotages the jeeps that were meant to be used after the escape, but he is stopped when prison officials uncover problems in the records for his fake identity, Jorge Rivera. At the same time, Bellick tries to form his own betrayal plan with Mahone, but Mahone refuses to cooperate.

Michael checks the timing of the prison’s emergency power system by calling the generator manufacturer’s customer service, and he learns that the blackout window will be extremely short—only about 30 seconds to reach the fence safely once the lights go out. That information makes the plan even more urgent, and T-Bag overhears Michael and Whistler discussing survival and the need to keep going.

Lincoln takes direct action to trigger the blackout by hijacking a bus and crashing it into Sona’s transformer, causing the power to fail. In the chaos, Lechero, T-Bag, and Bellick openly betray the others and make it clear they intend to be the first ones out.

Meanwhile, Gretchen delivers the bomb that had been planted in her car to Sucre’s side of the conflict, and the episode ends with the escape plan hanging on the brink of collapse as everyone races against the rain, the darkness, and each other.
