Prison Break Episode 57: The Art of the Deal

Michael and Lincoln chase Whistler through the streets after he slips away from them, and when he tries to get Gretchen to pick him up, Lincoln catches and restrains him. Michael then calls Gretchen and arranges a public exchange, using Whistler as leverage to force the handoff of LJ and Sofia.

At the exchange, Michael insists on checking that LJ and Sofia are alive and in custody before he will hand over Whistler. Gretchen tries to persuade Michael to join the Company, but he refuses and keeps the terms of the trade under his control. The meeting is tense and heavily guarded, with a sniper positioned to take Lincoln out if things go wrong.

In Sona, Sucre is punished for helping with the escape. He is beaten, refuses to give up any information about Michael, and is then forced to dig his own grave and lie in it while the guards begin burying him alive until the general finally orders them to stop.

The exchange itself goes badly wrong almost immediately. Gunfire erupts, one of Gretchen’s men tries to shoot a guard, and in the chaos Sofia is shot. Michael rushes to a car to get a gun so he can kill Gretchen, but he does not get the chance to settle the situation cleanly before it turns into a full crisis.

Inside Sona, T-Bag manipulates Lechero by convincing him that the inmates can buy their freedom for \$50,000. When Lechero sends for the money, T-Bag’s plan is revealed, and he kills Lechero, taking control of the situation for himself.

By the end of the episode, the exchange has produced a series of new reversals rather than a clean resolution: LJ and Whistler have been traded, Sofia has been wounded, and Michael is still trapped in a dangerous standoff with Gretchen while Sucre remains imprisoned and beaten in Sona.
