Rick and Morty Episode 19: Interdimensional Cable 2: Tempting Fate
Jerry gets sick, and Rick sparks up the TV.
Full recap
Jerry is rushed to an alien hospital after accidentally ingesting a dangerous bacterium that Rick had been storing in a pint of ice cream. Once the family arrives, Jerry is treated while Rick refuses to sit through the hospital’s alien cable programming and instead rigs the waiting-room TV to receive interdimensional channels again. Rick, Morty, and Summer watch bizarre broadcasts and commercials, while Beth joins them in the waiting room later, visibly stressed about Jerry’s condition.
Jerry wakes up cured, but his recovery immediately turns into a strange ethical dilemma when the hospital staff explain that a dying alien civil-rights leader needs a replacement heart, and Jerry’s penis is the best available organ for the procedure. Jerry initially recoils from the idea, then wavers as he worries about how he will be seen by others and what choosing or refusing might say about him. His indecision becomes public, and he is pulled between wanting to do the “right” thing and wanting to keep his body intact.
As the situation escalates, Jerry’s attempts to control the outcome only make matters worse. The family remains stuck in the hospital while the episode cuts between his increasingly absurd standoff with the doctors and the family’s viewing of more interdimensional TV. In the end, Jerry’s conflict is resolved by the hospital’s intervention, and the family is sent home after the chaotic ordeal, with Beth angrily berating Jerry for caring so much about what strangers think of him.
