Rick and Morty Episode 20: Look Who's Purging Now

Rick and Morty stop on an alien planet to replace the windshield fluid after a bug splatters on the ship, only to arrive on the night of the planet’s annual “Festival,” when all crime is legal and widespread violence erupts. Rick is initially fascinated and wants to watch, but Morty is horrified by the chaos and is especially disturbed when they see a young alien woman being attacked.

Morty insists on helping her, and Rick reluctantly intervenes. The woman turns out to be ruthless and opportunistic: after getting close enough, she steals Rick’s gun and spaceship, leaving Rick and Morty stranded on the planet during the purge night.

With no ship, Rick and Morty are forced to survive on foot among the armed citizens hunting anyone they can find. Rick calls Summer for help, and she sends gear to them while Jerry and Summer have an awkward, tense day at home, with Jerry repeatedly trying to act like he belongs more in the family.

Rick and Morty make their way toward a lighthouse to use a signal device, and the lighthouse keeper agrees to help only if Morty listens to a screenplay he wants to share. As the purge continues, Morty becomes increasingly aggressive and unstable, eventually going on a violent rampage. Rick eventually knocks Morty out.

The young woman from earlier returns and explains that she wanted Rick’s ship so she could help end the Festival by killing the wealthy people who created and profit from it. Rick agrees to work with her, and the two of them storm the ruling class’s stronghold and kill the people responsible for the system. By the end, the planet’s survivors are left to face the collapse of their old order, while Rick and Morty’s actions have left the place in chaos.
