Rick and Morty Episode 21: The Wedding Squanchers

The Smith family receives an intergalactic wedding invitation from Birdperson and Tammy, and Rick reluctantly agrees to go only after Jerry is accidentally shipped to the wedding destination. Once they arrive, the family meets the guests, and Beth tries to learn more about Rick’s past from Birdperson, who makes it clear that Rick is an important fugitive.

At the wedding, Rick is gloomy and combative at first, but Morty pushes him to be more open. Rick eventually gives a sincere toast to the couple, seeming to soften for a moment. That changes when Tammy reveals herself to be an undercover agent for the Galactic Federation and immediately turns on everyone, killing Birdperson and unleashing Federation forces on the wedding.

Rick creates a distraction and escapes with his family in a spaceship. Because they can’t safely return to Earth, he takes them to a remote planet and they hide there for a few days. While Rick is away, Jerry tells the others they should turn Rick in, arguing that Rick would never sacrifice himself for them. The rest of the family defends Rick and says they want to stay with him, which Rick overhears from beneath the floor.

Afterward, Rick tells Morty he is going to get ice cream, but instead leaves and contacts the Federation. He agrees to surrender himself in exchange for his family’s freedom. The Federation takes the family back to Earth, which is now under Federation control and filled with alien activity, while Jerry is eventually given a job there. Rick is captured and sent to a prison planet, where he is imprisoned for “everything.”
