Rick and Morty Episode 32: Edge of Tomorty: Rick Die Rickpeat

Rick takes Morty to Forbodulon Prime to harvest death crystals, which show the holder possible ways they might die. Morty touches one and becomes fixated on a vision of himself growing old with Jessica, then starts treating the crystal’s guidance like a strict plan for his life.

Back on the trip home, Morty insists on steering and causes a crash that kills Rick. A hologram version of Rick appears and tries to walk Morty through reviving him with a clone setup, but Morty sees that doing so would ruin the future he wants, so he refuses and leaves with the crystal.

While Morty goes home, the hologram keeps pestering him, and Rick’s mind ends up transferred through several backup bodies from alternate realities, each one more bizarre than the last. After cycling through a series of failed revivals, Rick lands in a reality where everyone is wasp-like, and a wasp version of Rick helps him return to his own universe and become human again.

Meanwhile, Morty keeps following the crystal’s instructions with increasing commitment. He steals weapons from Rick’s stash, goes on a violent rampage, and even gets captured in a trial, only to save himself by quoting the dying words of the judge’s husband.

Rick, the hologram, and the wasp version of Rick all pursue Morty as he becomes more and more transformed by the crystal’s influence. Morty uses ferrofluid to turn himself into a monstrous cyborg, but the Ricks pull him out of it before the hologram gets absorbed into the fluid and becomes a bigger threat.

The absorbed hologram turns into a giant unstable force that attacks everyone, but the wasp version of Rick stings it in the eye, causing a swarm of offspring to burst out and destroy it. By the end, Rick and Morty make it home, where Jerry and Beth criticize Rick for turning Morty into an “Akira”-style monster, while Morty defends Rick and accepts responsibility for what he did.
