Rick and Morty Episode 61: Ricktional Mortpoon's Rickmas Mortcation

The Smith family celebrates Christmas, and Rick seems unusually generous, giving everyone elaborate gifts. Morty receives a functional lightsaber and, excited, heads to the garage with Rick to try it out. While showing it off, Morty accidentally drops the lightsaber straight down, and it disappears into the floor.

Morty and Rick soon discover the blade has gone deep underground, threatening to keep sinking. As they investigate, Morty learns that the “Rick” he has been spending time with is actually a robot replacement, and that the real Rick has been away dealing with a larger personal mission. Morty is furious, and the situation escalates when the President arrives and explains that the lightsaber is heading toward the Earth’s core and could destroy the planet.

Rick, Morty, and the President work together to stop the weapon. Their attempts to destroy or disable it from a distance fail, so they travel downward in pursuit of it. Along the way, Morty’s anger at Rick’s deception keeps building, but the crisis forces them to keep working together. By the end of the episode, Rick admits he should have involved Morty more directly, and the two are left on strained but continuing terms as the larger threat remains unresolved.
