Rick and Morty Episode 80: Morty Daddy

Morty gets a call from a hospital telling him that **Morty Jr.** wants to see him, and Morty realizes his son is probably dying because of how quickly he has aged. Jerry is upset by the call because Morty Jr.’s book has made Jerry and Beth look like bad parents, while Rick and Summer get a restaurant reservation reminder from a place called **Prix Cogs**, which claims it can predict what customers will want to eat before they order.

Morty goes to the hospital and reunites with Morty Jr., who is now visibly much older and wants to make peace before he dies. Morty Jr. asks him to help him reconcile with his mother, the sex robot that gave birth to him, and Morty agrees. Morty then takes Morty Jr. to the place where Rick dumps his garbage so Morty Jr. can find his mother, but the trip leads them into a strange trash-world setting where discarded things are treated like a society of their own.

Meanwhile, Rick and Summer go to **Prix Cogs**, where Summer is immediately frustrated by the food and by the restaurant’s automated, prediction-based system. Rick is also unhappy with the place, and the situation escalates as Summer keeps pushing back against the restaurant staff and the food they serve her. The restaurant sequence eventually turns into a bigger conflict, forcing Rick and Summer into trouble with the hidden mechanisms and people behind the operation.

Back with Morty and Morty Jr., the search for Morty Jr.’s mother leads them deeper into the trash society, where they encounter resistance from the forces running it. Morty and Morty Jr. end up helping the trash people fight back, and Morty finally begins to mend his relationship with his son by supporting him instead of avoiding him. Morty also acknowledges Morty Jr.’s writing and seems to earn back some of his respect during the conflict.

At the end of the episode, the family’s separate problems resolve in an absurdly Rick and Morty way: Morty’s personal reconciliation, Rick and Summer’s restaurant disaster, and Jerry’s embarrassment all sit side by side as the episode closes. In the post-credits scene, the Precogs are shown operating a food truck on Trash Moon, serving hot dogs to robots, and one robot complains that its order was wrong despite the Precogs insisting it wasn’t.
