Rick and Morty Episode 90: Salute Your Morts

Morty and Summer are expelled from school after repeated reckless misuse of Rick’s technology and other chaotic behavior, and Rick briefly reverses the expulsion by humiliating the principal with a bizarre transformation. Beth argues that the kids need to face real consequences instead of being rescued again, so Rick decides to send them to an off-world sleepaway camp meant for spoiled troublemakers.

Rick escorts Morty and Summer to the camp in a hostile, punitive way, stripping away their advantages before they arrive. When they get there, the camp is no longer run by counselors: the kids have violently taken over, killed the adults they thought were “lame,” and turned the place into a nonstop party with no meaningful rules or supervision.

At first, Morty and Summer are terrified by the chaos and the lack of adults, but they quickly realize the “freedom” of the camp is just another kind of trap. The kids in charge enforce a party-centered culture, and the newcomers are swept into the camp’s aimless excess before the situation starts to wear everyone down.

Back home, Beth and Jerry take advantage of being alone and get intoxicated with an alien drug described as “High Forever,” leading them into a long, silly, impaired state that makes them increasingly unhelpful. Rick’s attempt to maintain control over the situation also goes sideways, leaving the adults too compromised to solve the problem cleanly.

Morty and Summer are eventually forced to deal with the camp crisis themselves. They rally the other trapped kids and fight back against the people running the camp, turning the same peer pressure and group energy that powered the takeover into a way to regain control.

By the end of the episode, Morty and Summer have learned that no one is coming to save them, and they have to act on their own. The adults’ disastrous choices contrast with the kids’ effort to fix the mess themselves, which gives the episode its final emphasis on self-reliance rather than rescue.
