Ted Lasso Episode 19: Beard After Hours

Beard leaves the team after the loss and makes his own way home, but instead of settling in, he ends up spending the night wandering through London in a series of increasingly chaotic misadventures. The episode follows him alone, with the team mostly absent, as he tries to process the defeat and the state of his life.

At the start, Beard rides the tube home from Wembley, then reaches his apartment and watches the postgame coverage, where the match seems to echo his own self-criticism. Unnerved and restless, he goes back out into the night and heads to a pub, where he drinks and ends up spending time with three Richmond supporters.

The four of them leave for a swanky private club, where Beard talks their way past the staff and into a night of partying. There, Beard becomes fixated on a mysterious woman in a red dress, follows her, and eventually gets thrown out after his pants are torn in the commotion. Outside, he encounters her again, and she brings him back to her place, where she gives him unusual pants to wear while she mends his.

That situation quickly turns disastrous when her partner comes home, and Beard is forced to flee before he can explain himself. He loses his phone and wallet during the escape, then spends the rest of the night trying to get back home while moving through the city on foot and by whatever transport he can find. Along the way, he is beaten by a group of men he runs into, then later gets helped by the woman’s partner, who scares them off and returns his belongings.

When Beard checks his phone, he finds a stream of increasingly frantic messages from Jane, showing that she wants to see him that night and is emotionally worked up about his absence. Beard tries to get home, but just as he reaches his door, his key snaps in the lock, leaving him stranded again in the rain. He takes shelter in a church, hears dance music from below, follows it, and discovers that the basement is being used as a club, where Jane is dancing. Beard joins her on the dance floor, ending the episode on that note.
